Anxiety Treatment

Everyone feels anxious about something occasionally. However, when that feeling is consistent and never diminishes, you may need to consult a therapist. Ultimately, they may diagnose you with an anxiety disorder.

Different Types of Emotional Anxiety

There are many types of anxious feelings you may experience – all of which will dramatically impact your health and wellbeing. These can range from general or social anxieties to intense panic attacks. This mental health condition challenges every part of your life. It can make you fearful, nervous, or dread a situation. You may even want to hide from the world around you. If this is taken to an extreme level, you may be unable to maintain a steady job. You may also find yourself suffering from emotional issues that result in physical problems such as insomnia, ulcers, and more.

General Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

This is a consistent state of worry that’s out of proportion to the actual event that’s causing you to feel this way. There may not even be anything specifically wrong in your life, and you may still feel this way.

Although GAD can affect anyone, women are twice as likely as men to experience it. The way in which GAD presents itself is always the same, even though your worries may be different depending on your age. Your worry shifts rapidly from one concern to another. While some of the concerns you experience may be somewhat normal, the intensity of the worry isn’t.

When you experience GAD, you may also find yourself suffering from physical afflictions (e.g., inability to focus, irritation, insomnia, fatigue) too. Many people will also experience panic attacks that consist of sweating, shaking, and stomach issues (e.g., nausea, diarrhea).

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)

This is one of the most common disorders among Americans who find themselves suffering from anxious thoughts and feelings. About 15 million people are living with it today.

SAD is defined by an intense fear of personal or public interaction due to an irrational fear of being judged or teased. You may also feel as though you’re under a microscope. Eventually, these feelings will result in depression, feelings of inferiority, and extreme self-consciousness. Like GAD, SAD can also result in panic attacks and other physical manifestations of the disorder.
